Today and the past couple of days before the 2015 NHL Draft their have been some big trades and some key resigning. Also, some crazy rumors.
Some resigning that have happened so far has been between the LA Kings and Tyler Toffoli who keeps on getting better and better every year. Tyler is a major key to the Kings road back to the promise land. They agreed to a 2 year deal worth up to $6.6 million dollars according to ESPN.com’s Pierre Lebrun. Toffoli scored 23 goals with a total of 49 points. Not a bad year for the 23 year old.
Other extensions include Red Wings and center Joakim Andersson on a one year deal worth $815K, Sharks and goalie Troy Grosenick on a 2 year deal worth $1.2 mil, Predators and center Mike Fisher agree to a big 2 year deal worth $8.8 mil. He is a good player, but maybe a little over paid? Bruins resigned D man Adam McQuaid to a 4 year deal that is worth $11 mil. That was a good cheap move. I like it!
Trades so far that happened have been both by the Bruins trading young defenceman Dougie Hamilton to the Flames for 3 good picks (Flames 1st round pick and two of the Flames 2nd round picks) . Good move by both teams. Bruins also traded Forward Carl Soderberg to Colorado for a 6th round pick which was a little disappointing because they could of got at least a 4th round pick. After that trade the Avalanche and Soderberg agree to a deal for 5 years worth $23.75 mil. Got to put that money somewhere!
The Wild signed college free agent defense man Mike Reilly to an entry level contract for 2 years up to $1.85 mil. The Wild win the Reilly sweepstakes.
Maple Leafs traded forward Greg Mckegg to the Panthers and received in return a 2017 7th round pick and forward Zach Hyman.
Sabres and Senators completed a deal today. The deal includes young goalie Robin Lehner and veteran center David Legwand to Buffalo and Ottawa gets the sabres first round pick for today’s draft (21st overall). Good deal with Senators clear cap space and get another 1st round pick. Sabres did a good job too because they get a talented 23 year old goalie who has lots of potential. He just needs to stay healthy. He has the skills to be a number one goalie in the NHL. Also good for Lehner because the Hamburglar is stealing the show and playing time from Lehner and Craig Anderson. Anderson is a 34 year old vet who is a solid backup to Andrew Hammond. So Overall, Lehner wins because he gets fresh start and has a chance to win the starting job in Buffalo. Also Legwand to Buffalo gives them solid ice time and is a veteran who can show the ropes to the young guns in Buffalo.
A new trade has emerged according to HNIC’s Elliotte Friedman. The Kings and Bruins have reached a deal. The Bruins will send forward Milan Lucic to the Kings and the Bruins will get backup goalie Martin Jones, defenceman Colin Miller who is a Kings prospect, and the 13th overall pick in this year’s draft. Wow this new Bruins GM is cleaning out house. The Bruins after this trade now own 3 picks in the 1st round and the crazy part is they are back to back to back (13-15) !
Some possible players on the bubble can be moved tonight at the NHL Draft. Those players include Maple Leafs star winger Phil Kessel, Blackhawks veteran forward Patrick Sharp, Avalanche forward Ryan O’Reilly and Cam Talbot the backup goalie of the New York Rangers. Those are 4 key players to their respected teams. If they get traded to other teams they will contribute greatly to their new team’s success.
