Pierre Thomas is still unsigned heading into the 2015-2016 season. Why is a proven running back not attracting interest. He can run, block, and catch still. He is a key player on passing downs which the NFL is translating into even more than last season. Pierre has always been a Saints fan favorite and don’t understand why Sean Payton wouldn’t want this running back on his roster heading into this season. Pierre has been productive since he has stepped into the league. The 30 year old running back (which his age doesn’t help because of the saying now “when running backs hit 30 they start to fade out of the league”) averaged 468.1 rushing yards per season and a average of 3.8 rushing touchdowns per season. Also, on the receiving stat line he averages 326 yards per season with an average receiving touchdown per season of 1.5. That is solid production from a back up running back for who went undrafted and produced for 8 years. For all the games he has played in the NFL he has averaged 13.1 games a year and has an average start of 4.7 games, which is close to 5 a year. Some years he started and some he didn’t. Some teams that could use Pierre Thomas include a list of the Saints, Lions, and Cardinals. Saints because they know Pierre and know what he can do and he would give them a discount. Also, Saints have Mark Ingram who is a streaky runner,C.J. Spiller who has lots of potential, but always finds a way to get hurt, Khiry Robinson who is young and upcoming and with extras with the likes of Edwin Baker and etc. The other teams he would have to battle for a roster spot and show the other teams what he brings to the table because he has been a Saint thru out his whole NFL career. Lions let Reggie Bush go, but still have Joique Bell, Theo Riddick, and drafted Ameer Abdullah. He would be in a battle with Riddick. Cardinals have Andre Ellington who is here to stay, they drafted Northern Iowa star David Johnson and also Pierre could battle for a spot with Marion Grice, Robert Hughes, Stepfan Taylor, and Kerwynn Williams. With all the injuries in the past with Ellington it would be nice to have a quality back up in Pierre Thomas. The backups gained some experience this past season, but still don’t have enough. Overall, all these teams that Pierre could go too seem like they all carry 4 good quality running backs. Its key to have 3 to 4 good running backs nowadays especially ones who can do it all or just catch and block. If Pierre was offered a contract by one of these teams, he would most likely I think go back to New Orleans because of the coaching staff and the familiarity of the team and city and their fans. Plus the coaches and himself knows his given role.
