Meanwhile, down in the Rays farm system the number one prospect is Willy Adames (link), who was acquired last season in the 3 way trade that sent David Price to the Tigers, who is currently a Blue Jay. Adames is the Rays number one prospect and hitting prospect also. Currently the 41st prospect in baseball. Adames is a big shortstop and looks a lot like Manny Machado of the Baltimore Orioles, except Adames will remain a shortstop. Adames has a nice swing that is level and will be a double machine and can potentially hit 20 bombs a year. Adames has a solid glove too. Willy currently is hitting .258 with 4 homers and 45 RBIs. Willy also has hidden speed that is deadly, but quiet. You do not hear much about his speed. He has 6 triples and 24 doubles with 9 stolen bases. Adames is a disciplined hitter that will work the count. He has quick hands to the ball, but he will become a really good hitter if he can improve on his pitch recognition. Willy Adames is the future shortstop for the Rays and should be called up either next year at the end of the season or a spot start like player in 2017, but in 2018 he should completely take the over shortstop. He is currently at advanced Single-A in Port Charlotte.
