Today, the Bucs acquired strong legged kicker Kyle Brindza from the Lions for Tim Wright. This is the second time Tim Wright has been traded from the Bucs. Wright will be competing with Joseph Fauria, but Wright will take the job from him because Fauria cannot seem to stay healthy and is still battling an injury that he suffered before camp.
In addition, Brindza was battling against Matt Prater. Now Brindza will be competing with Connor Barth and Patrick Murray for the starting job, despite Lovie Smith saying Patrick Murray’s job is safe. Honestly, when you bring Barth back and then trade for a kicker I personally do not think Murray’s job is safe and same for others. Brindza also punts, so that could maybe land himself a spot on the team, but Murray can do both kicking duties too.
Meanwhile, during preseason rookie Kyle Brindza has looked really good and some Lions fans were thinking he would have took the job from Prater. The Notre Dame product in the preseason has converted on all 3 of his field goal attempts. Brindza longest kick has been 51 yards. Like I said “Brindza can punt”. In a preseason game against the Redskins he booted 3 punts for an average of 50.7 yards. Bucs fans are wanting a new punter due to Koenen’s decline.
