Today, the Rockies reached a deal to lock up their closer in Adam Ottavino. Ottavino is receiving a 3 year deal worth $10.4 mil, according to Jon Heyman. Ottavino will make his scheduled 2015 salary of $1.3 mil.
In addition, Ottavino’s 2015 season was cut short due to Tommy John surgery that he got done back in May. The 30 year old appeared in 10 games last season and saved 3 games with striking out 13 batters in 13.1 innings of work. Now, Ottavino owns a career ERA of 3.88, but has pitched well since arriving in Colorado back to the start of the 2012 season.
Finally, Ottavino will most likely be ready for spring training if no setbacks happen during rehab. Also, Ottavino will be part of a revamped bullpen with new acquisitions like Jason Motte and Chad Qualls with also a familiar face in Boone Logan. That is a solid back end of the bullpen between the four of those pitchers. The revamped bullpen will help the Rockies make great strides in becoming a wild card contender.
