Today, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers added former Falcon and Dolphin corner, Brent Grimes. Grimes is coming off three straight Pro Bowl seasons and boy did the Bucs get a bargain in landing Grimes. They paid him $13.5 mil that could lead up to $16.5 mil if he reaches playing-time and Pro Bowl incentives for the next two seasons, according to Ian Rapoport.
Furthermore, in 2015, he intercepted four passes to go along with 49 tackles, and was ranked 41st out of 111 qualified cornerbacks by Pro Football Focus. The 32-year-old corner started 15 games last year and missed one to an injury. Notice, he gets lots of pass deflections as he picked up 14 and 43 in his tenure down in Miami.
Finally, Grimes seems comfortable joining Tampa due to the fact that he will reunite with his old head coach — he played under Mike Smith, Tampa Bay’s new defensive coordinator, during his years as a Falcon. The Bucs needed help at the corner position as they struggled and did a great job here in signing their new number one corner on the depth chart in Grimes.
Note: Sterling Moore and Mike Jenkins are unrestricted free agents.
