Today, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers continue to spend their money wise on key players that will help them succeed in the upcoming season and for future seasons. The man they just signed was Robert Ayers Jr and he is a 31-year-old defensive end that has been a late bloomer in his career from a pass rushing standpoint. He has always been one of the league’s top run stopping defensive ends, but has been a nice sack machine in the NFL since he left the Broncos in 2013. From his rookie season back in 2009 all the way through 2012 he produced 6.5 sacks, but from 2013 (last year in Denver) through 2015, he nearly tripled his sack production by piling up 20 sacks.
In addition to the signing, Ayers will receive a three-year deal worth $19.5 mil that could reach $21 mil. This is a bargain for the Bucs to steal Ayers at this price. He will join a Bucs defensive line that finished 14th last year in total sacks (38). That line includes Gerald McCoy, Jacquies Smith, William Gholston, Akeem Spence, Clinton McDonald, Howard Jones, and George Johnson.
Finally, Ayers finished the 2015 season by playing in 12 games, while starting 11. In fact, Ayers totaled up 41 tackles (11 for a loss), forced 2 fumbles and deflected 4 passes at the line of scrimmage. Lastly, the stat we all want to see is that he racked up 9.5 sacks last year and was the Giants best defensive lineman.
