The San Diego Chargers might have found their future signal caller by claiming Zach Mettenberger off waivers from the Tennessee Titans, according to Ian Rapoport of NFL.com. Now, Mettenberger has connections in San Diego as his former Head Coach Ken Whisenhunt is now the San Diego Chargers’ offensive coordinator.
Now, Mettenberger has a good chance to be their future quarterback as he was once called that in Tennessee, but Marcus Mariota came into the picture and ended that title for Mettenberger. In San Diego, he will be battling with Kellen Clemens for the backup job, which if it came down to those two, I would honestly pick Mettenberger as he is younger and more talented. Sadly, with Mettenberger joining, Bryn Renner has already been waived and it also seems Mike Bercovici is out of the quarterback race, but could be kept on the practice squad when the rosters are rounded out.
Finally, the LSU product has had an up and down career, but it is not all his fault as he has been on some bad teams, but that should change with a new scenario in San Diego as the offensive line should be better. In Mettenberger’s career, he has not won a game (0-10) in games he started. Also, he piled up 2,347 passing yards on a 60.3 completion percentage (208-345). Those 208 completions resulted in 12 passing touchdowns and 14 interceptions. He has only played in 14 career games.
