Arsenal boosted their midfield group by bringing in the young Switzerland star. Xhaka was bought for a reported £35 mil, which is a little pricey, but at the same time it will be worth it over time. He will split time in the midfield with Elneny, Ramsey, Cazorla, Wilshere, and Coquelin. Xhaka is joining the team at the right moment as he can get fit quickly. Xhaka could get a leg up on his teammates as he is highly experienced and known in the soccer world. He has played against some of the best teams in the world in Champions League, and has played well against them.
Furthermore, the 23-year-old, who has represented his homeland (Switzerland) 41 times in international play. He is a leader, which resulted in him being named a captain at Borussia Monchengladbach. He will join up with his new teammates after Euro 2016, which runs from June 10th to July 10th.
In addition, Xhaka is a defensive minded midfielder, but has lots of room to increase his offensive skill set. He scored 6 goals in 108 Bundesliga appearances by assisting his teammates 3 times, but also some assists do not show up like hockey, but he contributed too many more. He had an 85.3 percentage in passing accuracy over the past four seasons. Now on the defensive side, he made 244 tackles, 41 blocks, and 227 interceptions.
Finally, Arsenal is hoping that Xhaka is the missing piece that can put them over the top in the league. After all of those injuries last year to the Gunners midfield, Xhaka brings durability to the team as you should expect him to play a lot. Lastly, they still need to address the striker position.
Note: Interestingly, former Switzerland national team boss Ottmar Hitzfeld called Xhaka the next Schweinsteiger.
