Today, the Rays acquire two prospects for Brandon Guyer, who was a vital piece in the Matt Garza trade to the Cubs. Guyer is going to be a platoon outfielder for the Indians. The two prospects heading back to Tampa are outfielder Nathan Lukes and pitcher Jhonleider Salinas.
First off, Nathan Lukes is 22 years old and is having a great season. He was just moved up to high Class-A. He batted .301/.375/.453 with five homers and 14 steals in 393 plate appearances in the Class-A Midwest League. He will be added to a nice young pool of outfielders in Tampa’s system. He plays all three outfield spots.
Finally, Salinas is a right-handed pitcher that is only 20 years old. He has logged 30 innings in the Arizona Rookie League and compiled a 3.30 ERA with a 38-to-14 K/BB ratio in 30 innings of work. This kid has all the tools to be a major leaguer.
