Lions Keep The Don Around

Today, the Detroit Lions decided to keep one of the league’s best punt units intact by retaining Don Carey’s services for one more year worth $1.35 mil, according to Field Yates of Johnson Bademosi and Don Carey form the league’s best gunning duo. Those two have helped Lions’ punter Sam Martin a rich man.

In addition, he is one of the best gunners in the league, also gunners have gotten a ton of more recognition this year than ever before. Matthew Slater of the New England Patriots was extended earlier in the season and Russell Shepard of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers should receive a new deal soon too.

Also, the 29-year-old “special teams star”, which teammate Brandon Copeland considers Carey to be, has a team-high seven special teams tackles this year and also has played a handful of snaps as a nickel cornerback. Last year, he had 16 special teams tackles, which was first on the team as well.

Finally, he is one of the primary reasons the Lions rank second in the NFL with a 46.0-yard net average.
