Today, New York City FC adds their first off-season acquisition in former Seattle Sounder Sean Okoli. The 23-year-old returns to the MLS after spending this past season with FC Cincinnati in the USL.
In one season with FC Cincinnati, the young forward won the USL MVP and Golden Boot award, plus All-League honors, as he participated in 29 matches and scoring 16 times.
Now, previously in Seattle, he only appeared in three games with the senior club. So this one year in the USL really helped him find his form and to get his name back out onto the MLS radar.
In addition to Okoli expressing his interest in the team, he is really excited to play with David Villa by coming out and saying “I just want to help continue this club’s success and score goals with him and with the rest of the team.”
Finally, the team adds solid depth behind Villa and have most likely found their future striker after Villa decides to depart whenever that will be.
