Today, the Tampa Bay Lightning decided to officially part ways with Valtteri Filppula and two draft picks for Mark Streit of the Philadelphia Flyers, which the trade was announced by the Flyers.

This deal helps the Lightning clear cap, as next season they have to extend notable players like Tyler Johnson, Jonathan Drouin, and Ondrej Palat.

In addition, this also gives the Lightning a chance to play some more of the youngsters (Erne, Peca, Vermin, and Richard) with the departure of both Filppula and Boyle.

Now, adding Streit is a plus, as the defense has been shaky all year. The Lightning pick up a top four defender that will help give the Lightning a boost behind Victor Hedman.

Finally, the defenseman has 21 points on the season, as he scored five goals and assisted on 16 of them. In 49 games, he is averaging 19 minutes of ice time.
