Today, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers officially kicked off their off-season by retaining the services of versatile defender William Gholston. He will receive a five-year deal worth $37MM, as $13.5MM will be fully guaranteed, according to Adam Caplan of ESPN.com.
Now, this was one of the Buccaneers biggest priorities of the off-season and they knock it off their list for a fair price.
Interestingly, Gholston’s age, ability to play along the whole line and stop the run is what most likely helped him land this deal.
Gholston is the Buccaneers best run stopping linemen on the roster. The 25-year-old Michigan State product racked up 50 total tackles.
In addition, he set a career high in sacks with 3.5. He is not a big sack producer, but eventually that will come as he is still learning. He also picked up one forced fumble and recovery.
Finally, he started 14 games, which I would expect Gholston to get the nod to start most of the whole season.
