Today, the Buffalo Sabres finally landed Russian defender Viktor Antipin to a one-year deal, which was announced by the Buffalo Sabres. It is a one-year deal for the 24-year-old defender due to the fact that he is only eligible for a one-year entry-level deal making him a restricted free agent next summer.
Now, Antipin will help the Sabres build a better defensive corps, but he brings an offensive mind to the rink. He is a solid puck handler and he moves well on the ice. Overall, he is a well-rounded player.
In his KHL professional career, he has tallied 98 points (36 goals and 62 assists) in 266 games. Interestingly, he only has picked up 44 penalty minutes. He knows how to stay out of the box, which is key. Also, this defender plays well at the biggest stage, as he has 17 playoffs goals and 20 assists for a total of 37 points, which this past playoffs, he recorded seven goals and that led all defenders in goals.
Finally, Antipin will join Rasmus Ristolainen, Jake McCabe, Zach Bogosian, Brendan Guhle, and Devante Stephens on the blueline. Antipin will get playing time with the potential departure of Dmitry Kulikov and Cody Franson.
