Flyers Extend Gostisbehere

Today, the Philadelphia Flyers extended one of the young and bright defenders in the league. They extended Gostisbehere to a six-year deal that will pay him around an annual value averaged at 4.5MM. He was set to become a restricted free agent after the finals end. This was the number one priority for the Flyers this off-season.

In addition, his contract is loaded up front, which means he will get paid less in the later half of the deal.

Now 24, this move will keep him in Philly till he is 30 and then he will be ready for a new deal. This kid looks like he can play at a high level for a long time, so when he finishes his new deal, I expect him to play at a good rate in his early 30’s.

Furthermore, Gostisbehere has tallied 24 goals and 61 assists for 85 career points in only 142 games. That is a nice start for the young Floridian. Now, he did take a step back statistically. He scored 17 goals the year before, which is remarkable for a defenseman in hockey. He only scored seven goals this year.

Finally, this kid has only played in two full seasons in the pros and he has the attention of mostly every hockey fan out there in the states.

Note: He is the future of the Flyers.
