Today, the Los Angeles Clippers signed power forward Willie Reed to a one-year contract worth $1.5MM, according to Chris Haynes of ESPN.com.
Reed will most likely become the Clippers backup center with Blake Griffin, Montrezl Harrell, and Brice Johnson filling out the four spot on the court. Reed will be backing up DeAndre Jordan.
Now, Reed is a steal for the Clippers, as the late bloomer had his breakout season last year with the Miami Heat. The 27-year old big man averaged 5.3 PPG and 4.7 RPG in 71 games. The Missouri native recorded 14.5 minutes per match and shot 57 percent from the field.
Shockingly, Miami’s defensive efficiency numbers were also a few points better with Reed on the court.
Finally, with the Clippers bringing in Reed, expect that to put an end of a possible reunion with free agent Marreese Speights.
