The St. Louis Blues made defenseman Colton Parayko a rich man by handing him a five-year deal worth a whooping $27.5MM, according to Elliotte Friedman of Sportsnet. Parayko will make annual average value of $5.5MM.
This will keep the solid defender in St. Louis until he is 29, at which point he will be an unrestricted free agent.
The youngster has played at a solid rate in his first two years in the NHL. With him receiving his contract, he will have to continue to play at a high rate and continue to grow into the player they think he can be, which is why they decided to lock him up to this big deal.
In addition, with Kevin Shattenkirk leaving St. Louis, the 24-year old Canadian will have his role increased by a substantial rate.
Lastly, in 160 games, the defenseman has 13 career goals and 55 assists for a total of 68 points on a solid average ice time of 20:18. Shockingly, he is not a great offensive player, but this past year he improved.
2016/2017 stats: 81 games, four goals, 31 assists, 35 points, 21:12 total ice time.
