Earlier today, the Washington Nationals landed Twins closer Brandon Kintzler, according to Chelsea Janes of the Washington Post. Now, Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports reports that southpaw prospect Tyler Watson will return to Minnesota, plus Mark Feinsand of MLB.com announces that $500K of international bonus money will go to the Twins along with Tyler Watson.
Kintzler is the third reliever to join the Washington Nationals bullpen that includes a duo of Ryan Madson and Sean Doolittle in the back end of the ballgame. This move will help the Nats make a deep run for the World Series.
In addition, the 32-year old pitcher has had success as the Twins closer in the last two seasons by picking up 45 saves and posting a 2.98 ERA. Lastly, he is a rental for the Nats, as he will be expecting to land a nice payday in the off-season. He is eligible for the open market when this season ends.
