The Arizona Coyotes need help on the wings and especially on the right side of the rink. Thomas Vanek makes sense here, as he is looking for a job and the Coyotes are looking at help, which makes this a match.
Vanek is an experienced winger that can provide a solid one-two punch with newly-acquired top center Derek Stepan or go to the second line and pair with Christian Dvorak. The veteran winger still has an offensive touch to his game and showed that last year splitting the season between the Detroit Red Wings and Florida Panthers. He scored 17 goals and picked up 31 assists for 48 points in 68 games.
In addition, the Coyotes have 20-year-old Christian Fischer as an option for the right side, which he is a near lock for a spot on the roster. They also have young forwards in Jens Looke and Nick Merkley to play the right wing position, but they need to get a taste of the AHL before getting a chance in the NHL. If they play well, the Coyotes will explore the option on calling them up.
Also, expect Tobias Rieder to provide solid play and to improve his craft to show Coyote fans that he deserves another extension. Lastly, Anthony Duclair has not signed with the team yet, but if he does expect him to regain trust with the organization and return to the form that he displayed in the 2015-2016 season.
Finally, if the team does reach out to Thomas Vanek, expect him to sign on the dotted line for one year and join an interesting right wing group with Fischer, Rieder, Duclair, Looke, and Merkley.
