The Los Angeles Rams reward defensive end Ethan Westbrooks a one-year extension after seeing him notch three tackles and one sack against the Colts in a 46-9 victory in the season opener.
Per Ian Rapoport of NFL.com, the new deal will result in a pay cut from his $1.797MM salary for this year to $1.25MM. In exchange for that, the 26-year old defensive lineman gets a $1.75MM salary for the 2018 season.
With the growth of Westbrooks’ development, Westbrooks is listed as a starter on the Rams defense and maybe that is just for this year, unless he has a solid season, but overall the Rams are building depth, which is the way to go in making a good football team.
I do think the change to a 3-4 defense has helped Westbrooks, as he is clicking right away in the stat department.
Finally, in Westbrooks’ NFL career, he has a total of five sacks and 36 tackles in 36 games (3 starts).
Note: Westbrook is a late bloomer, which is fine, as many players made a career like that including Lorenzo Alexander and Terrelle Pryor to name a couple.
