Today, the Ducks acquired forwards Adam Henrique, Joseph Blandisi and New Jersey’s third-round pick in the 2018 NHL Draft from the New Jersey Devils for defender Sami Vatanen.
This is a trade that will help both teams, as the Devils get a good defenseman in Sami Vatanen and the Ducks get much needed help at the center position in Adam Henrique.
This is a key pick up as the team has some long-term injuries at the center position with top two centers Ryan Getzlaf and Ryan Kesler out for a month or two.
When Getzlaf and Kesler return, the Ducks will have a solid group of centers headlined by those two, plus newly-acquired Adam Henrique and a mix of Grant/Wagner/Vermette.
Furthermore, the Ducks will have the former Devil at a $4MM cap hit through next season, when he’ll become an unrestricted free agent.
Finally, the 27-year old center has played in 24 games with New Jersey this season, which he has recorded four goals and 10 assists.
Note: Henrique is a durable player that can record 20+ goals and take the stress off his teammates in the offensive zone.
