Today, the Minnesota Vikings have reached a deal with defensive end Danielle Hunter that is worth a total of $72 million with $40 million being guaranteed, plus he will get a $15 million signing bonus, according to Ian Rapoport of NFL.com.
This was a big priority for the Vikings to get done before the season started.
The 23-year old sack artist has been a productive force in the league since being drafted in the third-round of the 2015 NFL Draft. He has piled up a total of 25.5 sacks, three forced fumbles, 84 tackles and many quarterback pressures that have led to sacks or turnovers for his teammates. Hunter has played in 46 games and started 16 (last year he entered as a full-time starter).
Last year, he took a step back in the sack department, but that was because teams actually respect him and realized that they need to stop him. He recorded seven sacks and 27 tackles.
Pro Football Focus has Hunter rated as the 29th best edge rusher out of 106 qualifying players.
