The Chicago White Sox have struck a deal with the Pittsburgh Pirates to acquire starter Ivan Nova, according to Ken Rosenthal and Robert Murray of The Athletic.
Furthermore, the White Sox will send young hurler Yordi Rosario and $500K in international bonus pool money to the Pirates, Jon Heyman reports.
Ivan Nova is set to make $8.5MM for the upcoming season, which he is currently slated as the White Sox highest paid starter, according to Spotrac’s data. Also, with James Shields becoming a free agent, Nova will be the only veteran in that rotation.
Finally, Nova’s Pittsburgh tenure saved his career as it has for many other starters in the past years. During his time as a Pirate, he recorded a record of 25-25 in 71 starts and posting a 3.99 ERA in 412.2 innings. He struck out 297 hitters and completed five games (one shutout).
